Dear HTN friends, I just want to put it out there as a social studies teacher that this tragic invasion of Ukraine by Russia represents a betrayal not only of Ukrainian sovereignty and autonomy, but also of the Russian people who neither want or support a war against a nation that many see as their brethren. I would encourage you in your support for Ukraine 🇺🇦 to not to take our anger for Putin and his war (which I, too, feel deeply) out on individual Russians or communities of Russians who call our countries home. If the Ukranians can differentiate between the two, so can we. Let us not revisit the crimes we committed against the Japanese living here nearly 80 years ago. For a deeper statement and many resources, I offer my statement on my journal’s website: assertjournal.com/index.php/assert/announcement/view/7 So although I am happy to take your Russians from you, I needed to say my piece first.

awesome bud... But I don't really understand what taking it out on Russian players does for anybody? There is no progressive or practical process in this that leads to anything helpful but maybe I can be persuaded on this one. lol

Something I think is a reality is that you need to hurt the people before you hurt the politicians. Banning all Russians from Sports & other facets of world involvement serves notice

I am totally onboard with banning Russia from international competition. Not sure I get going after Russian players here, like CCM not using Ovechkin in their advertising. It would be different if Ovi came out in support of the invasion…but he did not.

I’m not going after Russian players for political reasons. Not directly at least. It’s just risk management. I can see some Russian athletes getting caught up in a political vice and having to make some hard choices.

Interesting..there a few issues with this.. Firstly this could constitute as Russian hate propaganda which leads to worse rascism, and secondly, hurting Russian athletes has no affect on Russian elect government which means your hurting the civilians with no major affect on world current event. I am with Doc in a sense that we need to seperate Russian athletes and world events and there opposite aspects.

In case you missed it, this stems from the trade Doc and I made and it has nothing to do with any kind of anti-Russian sentiment. It’s about risk management pure and simple. I don’t want to risk losing my keeper goalie because he can’t or won’t play in the West for whatever political reasons that might arise. How in the hell does that constitute hate propaganda? Geezuz.

I appreciate your sentiments and I had no idea you and doc even trade because if I knew he was on the table I would have traded for him myself . I am more expressing the idea of why someone alienates these Russian athletes in the west in the first place. Your trade has nothing to do with my sentiments of anti Russian propaganda. lol
