Welcome me,
I'm new to this whole thing, I welcome people trying to take advantage of me in trades.
Still learning how we contact each other or how this thing works.
Everyone is available for a first round pick obviously.
Cheers and thanks for the warm welcome!

Welcome!
Pro tip:
Don't use the quote button to send trade proposals! That domain rests squarely in Docs eager fingers.
Instead, click the username, then send message!
Also, trade me your good things for my bad things, if I give you more bad things will you give one good thing?
Awww come on please! Do it. Aww man cmon, just do it!

Welcome mrmike! This is a very active and fun league. I’m in two leagues, but this one gets most of my attention. Good luck with your rebuild, sounds like your headed that way. And happy hunting this off season. 😀

Welcome, Mike! I see you post on CP a time or two. I think what I’ll say is your enjoyment of this league has a direct relationship to the amount of time you spend on it. No, not saying to live and breathe HTN, but staying active and checking for messages in the morning or at night (especially during trade season) will do you good. If you are good at responding and need something quicker, HTN also has discord, which makes trading a lot easier. I’ve had trades back then drag out for a week or two, but was able to get the same back-and-forth negotiations done within an hour with a GM.
This is my personal advice and does NOT have to be followed. But it’s helped me since being in the league: 1) only trade your UFA 1st or 1st rd prospect pick if you are for sure getting an upgrade or something that can help you come out on top. I’ve seen many times in my early days that I traded those picks away and didn’t really get the help I wanted, so I was a sitting duck. 2) prospects: if you have a grade A prospect bound to graduate (40+ NHL games), they likely have more value than you think. Real life cap (+5%) is a ***** but makes the league really tough (which I like), and those ELC players really help you before they get their first extension. 3) goalies: if you have a starting goalie (and a decent one), I would only trade him for a younger starter with potential or for some solid future assets if you’re rebuilding. It’s hard to get a bonafide starting goalie in this league. 4) Remember you don’t HAVE to trade with someone. If you feel like you’re not getting a good deal, then walk away from it. You don’t owe that GM anything, nor do they owe you anything. If it doesn’t work out it doesn’t work out.
I am sure there are more, but those are the ones off the top of my head. Feel free to pm me any other questions you have. I wish I had asked more questions when I first joined this league. I would have been far more successful in the beginning if I did.

Welcome
That was some good advice from Braeden
One other piece of advice I would add is to have a strategy and understand the strategy of others. It helps in trades. It helps find win-win deals.
There are three main goals: 1-rebuild, 2-compete, 3-playoffs
Since playoffs are a different animal, some people have used the strategy to focus on playoffs from the beginning of the season and have done well setting themselves up for success. Most people go for goal 1 or 2, so doing number three can give you some advantages.
If you check my last deal with Edmonton, it came together quick because I understood his strategy (compete this season). I was able to upgrade my prospects (since I am rebuilding) by helping him with an improvement in in free agent draft position AND freeing up a needed roster spot for him. Win-win
Have fun!

Good advice Braeden. I need to watch that myself. I’m all too quick to trade off my pics. But yaeh, what’s this about discord? I’d like to check that out, if you don’t mind?

Alright, I've finally gone through all of the CBA / Literature, and I have some questions about the UFA draft.
1. How do I find the order / standings from last season? 2. How do I see the picks for this? I've had trade offers for these but I don't know what I have / what other people have? 3. I imagine on fantrax the list of eligible players are who are currently free agents. 4. How do some people have more players currently on their roster than just the number of keepers that was standard?
I appreciate all the help, and apologize if this info is right in front of my face and just being oblivious.

1.on fantrax, we can usually see past seasons, but that only works for you if you had a team last season. If you look at the bottom of team rosters, you can see all the fa picks a team currently has. The good thing is they currently show you what order the pick is for 2022. Eg. 1-4 means fourth pick in first round.
2. As above, on fantrax. Team Roster, down at the bottom
3. Correct. The players you see available are the free agents. If you change the search parameters, you can see players that are taken. But it will tell you which team they are on.
4. Two reasons: first, if their prospects played more games than the prospect threshold, they become “forced promotions” and are no longer eligible to be prospects. They get moved to the NHL roster. For your team, that would be Brooks, Schneider and Comrie. Second, team have made trades with unequal players involved. I traded Barkov for a return that included two NHLers so I had more on my roster as a result.
Keep asking questions. Someone will always be happy to provide answers.

Thanks for the answers.
Hmm, if those picks are for the free agent draft, where are the entry/prospects draft pick locations? Or are they the same?

Well that changes everything then! I thought those were the prospect draft picks. Thanks.

We may find a way to add the prospect picks to fantrax in the future, but for now we track them on the forum
