It’s gonna be a great Canada Day. For the first time since forever the wife doesn’t want to go to the parade. So for the first time ever I get to stay home in my armchair and watch coverage of free agency frenzy. Woohoo. Beer, hockey and air conditioning vs no beer, bagpipes and sunstroke. Best Canada Day ever!!!

Happy Canada Day guys!!! Hmmm, I like bagpipes. If they could be playing softly while watching free agency, now that's living!

I’m okay with bagpipes in the right scenario. But with marching bands while sidestepping horse pucks doesn’t create the best bagpipe playing. And bad bagpipe playing is bad.

We’ve gotten trapped on the couch watching Retro Canadian videos one of the Stingray channels.
It’s glorious. Many guilty pleasures.
And the odd “didn’t know x was Canadian.”

Who was the biggest surprise?

Killorn surprised me. 4x6.5 seemed high and long, and I’m not sure why the Ducks want him. But overall the tight cap situation seems to have handcuffed GMs and they weren’t as foolish as most years. The dollar amounts are mostly sane. It’s the lack of apparent strategy with some teams that I found surprising. Nash and Ariz in particular. Detroit too. I don’t understand most of Detroit’s moves.

I agree. Those three teams have confused me. And that is an insane amount AND term for a 33 year old. He will be 38 making $6.5m by the end of the contract, a millstone if I ever saw one.

Add the Isles to that list too. Those Mayfield and Engvall contracts are yeesh. The cap hits are fine but the term is ridiculous. Even Sorokin. That’s too much term for a goalie.

I think the Flames for once won free agency day. We still have all our cap space.

But at least we still have it. Tree would have spent it on a Rooney 2.0.

What in the actual duck is Yzerman doing? 4.125m for Ghost!?! Yeah, it’s only for one year but that’s just throwing money away he could actually use for a helpful player.

I really like Yzerman as a GM but he's made some...bold UFA signings sith Detroit. I thought last year was a one off.

Other than Seider and Lindstrom the Wings have a very veteran but very meh D…Ghost, Chiarot, Holl, Maata, Walman. Given they are still in the upswing part of their rebuild I’d think they should be giving Edvinsson and Wallinder some NHL seasoning. It would be nice if Connie could swoop in and swoop up Edvinsson in particular if the Wings don’t want him. Hanifin would slot in as their #2 D.

It’s pretty hardcore. They drink a lot of water leading up to completions to expand their stomachs. The one that gets me the most in the list is 32 Big Macs in 38 mins.
His main competition over the years is some little Japanese guy. It always seems to be the smallest people who can pack away the food.

Maybe once a year she will eat an entire family size Chef Boyardee can of Raviolli. I think they are over a kilo (40 ounces for our American friends). I still don’t know how she does it.

I have a friend who makes of for my lack of kids and has 6. He has said one of the best values for his starting lineup was to go to the all you can eat sushi place. His 4 boys and 2 girls got way more than their moneys worth in the 90 minutes. The owners seemed amazed, impressed, and scared.

Wait, y'all have family size cans of Chef Boyardee? I love that stuff!!! Next to Twinkies it's nature's perfect food. When I was like 20 I was dating a girl who's mom made a spaghetti dinner for me. I told her it was delicious, almost as good as chef Boyardee. I meant it as a compliment but never had another date 😂
