Hi GMs,
Now that we have GMs for every team, I wanted to remind everyone of key events of the summer and a reminder of changes from last season to this season.
July 7 – keeper rollovers
All GMs from last season need to select keepers. You will need to check off who you are keeping on Fantrax (Teamkeeper admin) including all prospects. Many GMs have not checked anyone off. You need to do this.
New GMs, your teams are taken care of as you only drafted keepers and prospects. I’ve marked everyone for you.
July 8 – Trade freeze is over.
Trades can start to be processed as of the 8th. As always please post on the forum as well as Fantrax. Trade review rules are still the same, 5 votes and the trade to come across my desk and the mods will review it. Trades that do not get posted on the forum will be reviewed.
July 21 – Prospect Draft Starts
The three round prospect draft will begin on the 21st and will be via the forum. Last year we were able to complete the draft smoothly without using set time blocks and I’d like to try and do the same again this year. I will set times if we don’t seem to be progressing.
Further prospect draft reminders
Prospect picks line up with rounds 11-13 on Fantrax. Round 11=round 1 prospect picks, round 12, round 2, round 13, round 3. Fantrax only allows a single set of draft picks so this seems the best approach over our previous manual process.
We are expanding from 15 to 18 prospects this off season.
Prospects graduate when they hit 40 career games played for skaters and 20 games played for goalies. Graduating prospects must be moved up to your NHL squad after keeper rollovers. If they are not moved up prior to the free agent draft, they will be dropped.
Prospect picks can’t be traded during the draft, but trades can be worked out and processed after the draft. Reason for this so we can use the trade review process.
Rosters are considered locked as of the start of the prospect draft meaning no transfers up or down from you NHL or minor league squad.
Sept 11 – Free Agent Draft
We will run the 10 round free agent draft via Fantrax online draft board. The plan again will be to progress without using set time blocks. You guys did great last year, lets keep it up. If we get bogged down, we’ll set time windows.
Other things
The Classic Cap is $87.7MM. Teams can go 10% over in the off season (use at your own peril).
Player salaries are updated by Fantrax, typically in September. In the meantime, keep track of your player salaries and your cap yourself. Every year someone screws up and forgets their players are on new deals and ends up way over the cap. Don’t be that person. Capfriendly.com is your best source. For the new GMs, we use AAV for Classic, not “cap hit”. As a result, ELC players have their full bonus applied or vets who have bonus heavy contracts. For example, Connor Brown is $4MM not $775,000.
