7.0 Trading
7.1 Eligibility
While trading is open, any player or prospect can be traded at any time to another team.
Only dispersal draft picks for the years listed in Fantrax may be traded.
Eligible prospect draft picks are for the same years as dispersal draft picks.
In team-to-team trades, each team must receive some player or draft pick (a team cannot get nothing in a trade).
Teams may not trade salary cap space and the old team of a player cannot pay part of that player's salary once he is traded to the new team.
Conditional draft picks, and conditional clauses may be included in deals. Please ensure these are very clearly described to avoid confusion. GMs are responsible for alerting the league should any of the conditional events occur. If the condition is not identified in time, it shall be null and void. Trades cannot include real cash or other monetary considerations.
7.2 Notification
Trades are official when they are accepted in Fantrax. Announcing a trade in the forum ahead of acceptance in Fantrax will not make the trade official and will not be recognized.
When a trade is agreed upon and accepted in Fantrax, one GM simply begins a new thread in the Trade Talk forum with an appropriate title (ie Calgary-Anaheim deal) and outlines the details of the trade. This includes all player information and draft pick details. The other GM simply replies to the thread confirming the deal.
7.3 Disputes and Fair Trades
It is expected GMs will conduct trades with their mutual best interests in mind. It is the responsibility of the GMs involved in a trade to outline conditions as clearly as possible. Reasons for a trade should always be included in the announcement and if the trade may appear one-sided on the surface, or where trades are made between friends, the GMs should ensure their positions are fully understood by the league as part of the trade announcement.
Collusion
Trades where collusion is clear, or where a GM is clearly dumping players or draft picks will not be allowed. Based upon the severity of the incident and prior history, the GM(s) involved may be removed from the league.
Trade Review
All GMs will receive an automated message from Fantrax detailing each trade and each trade will be posted on the forum. Should GMs wish to have the trade reviewed by the moderators, the GM will need to vote against the trade in Fantrax within 2 days of the trade.
If a trade receives 5 votes, a commissioner will automatically cast the 6th vote and the trade will be reviewed by the mod team.
The process is as follows:
- The mods will post in the trade thread the trade is under review.
- The mods will investigate the trade which may include discussions with the GMs involved in the trade.
- The mods will then vote on the trade.
- Should the trade committee be deadlocked, the commissioner will make the deciding vote.
- If the trade involves mods they will be recused from the vote.
- If the trade involves the commissioner he will not participate in the process and the vice-commissioner will be the deciding vote in the case of a tie.
In extreme cases the moderators, at the request of the commissioner, will review a trade even if it has not received 5 votes.
