Just to make it easier, here are the playoff rules from the CBA. I’ve made some minor edits today to add a bit more clarity.
At the conclusion of the regular season, the top 16 teams will participate in the playoffs. If a team or teams in the top 16 violated a regular season rule and was therefore exempt from the playoffs, the next highest-ranked team(s) shall make the playoffs. Teams will be ranked 1-16 based on their finish in the regular season.
Playoffs will be a head to head matchup for each playoff round with the winner moving on.
HTN playoff rounds will mirror the NHL rounds. At the completion of round 1 of the NHL playoffs, the leading team in each matchup will move on to the 2nd round, and so on until the finals.
Matchups
The highest seed of the playoffs will pick their opponent.
The next highest-ranked team not already in a matchup will then pick from the remaining available teams.
Prior to the start of each round, the same process will continue with the highest-ranked team picking first.
Scoring
The winner of the round will have the most points from the matchup.
Scoring will be the same as the regular season.
Tiebreaker will be most goals followed by most goalie wins.
point totals are zeroed after each round.
Rosters
Only players in the active NHL squad count.
The salary cap and floor do not apply.
Roster minimums also do not apply.
GMs cannot pick up players off free agency.
GMs may move up playoff bound prospects without impacting their regular season keeper eligibility.
Trading is not allowed.
Round winners
Each round winner will have the opportunity to pick up players from the team they have beaten.
The GM can "canibalize" up to 6 players with a maximum of 2D or 1G from the team they have beaten.
